:Gangs of New York:
Rating: Worth the Theater's Admission
It is hard to imaging the poverty and squalor that most immigrants faced when entering the United States a century and a half ago. Honestly, it is not something that any of us think about regularly. As a New Yorker of Irish decent, Gangs of New York definitely caused me to contemplate life in New York far before I was a twinkle in my great-grandparents eyes.
Since this movie was based on the very real “Bill the Butcher”, I am intrigued by the actuality that similar events portrayed in this movie really happened in New York City. I am especially curious of how much of the political corruption still exists today. Although the movie is just shy of three hours long, I never caught myself looking at my watch. It is rare that I cannot find points of similarly long movies that I feel could have been cut or shortened, but I was fully entertained throughout.
